We really enjoyed our outing to St Mary Magdalene’s church this week! We found it fascinating to learn that it is built out of sandstone, which is our local area’s bedrock. We discussed the properties of sandstone and explored the building, observing how time and weather have affected the church’s walls. We couldn’t believe that millions and millions of years ago, Wyken used to be an ocean and that the sand underneath it all gradually turned into the stone!
On our way back to school, we also looked closely at all of the other types of rock that we could see in the environment.
